Pokémon Gen 1 PC Mods Add Voxel Graphics and VR Support

The Dramatic Voxel Shape mod, which recreates Pokémon Red and Blue in voxel graphics, has been updated to include a first‑person perspective and virtual‑reality support for PC. Users can enable VR by launching SteamVR, opening the game and selecting the VR option; the feature was tested with Meta Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop, though standalone headsets are not supported. The update adds specific VR controls, a virtual Pokédex interface, and camera adjustments for both diorama and first‑person modes.

Separately, the Gen1Recomp project by developer bryanthaboi ports Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow to PC using the LÖVE2D engine and Lua scripting. It offers modern features such as adjustable game speed, Game Boy Color palettes, save/load at any point, and a 3‑key‑activated 3D voxel mode that gives the classic 2D world a depth‑rich appearance similar to Square Enix’s HD‑2D style. Both fan‑made projects provide new ways to experience the original Generation 1 titles on modern hardware.
