Pokémon GO expands Mega Level 4 to 16 species

Following the implementation of Mega Swellow in Pokémon GO, the number of Pokémon capable of reaching Mega Level 4 has increased to 16 species. These include Mega Beedrill, Mega Raichu (X and Y), Mega Venusaur, Mega Starmie, Mega Dragonite, Mega Mewtwo (X and Y), Mega Corviknight, Mega Houndoom, Mega Swellow, Mega Chesnaught, Mega Fennekin, Mega Greninja, Mega Malamar, and Mega Tangrowth.

To reach Mega Level 4, players must spend 5,000 Mega Energy after having already reached Mega Level 3. Unlike previous levels, this cannot be achieved solely through the number of Mega Evolutions. Reaching this level allows Pokémon to use specialized gauge moves marked with a “+” symbol, which provide significantly higher damage output.

Players can accumulate the necessary Mega Energy for free by setting a Pokémon as a buddy and walking. On average, walking 1km yields 5 Mega Energy, meaning approximately 1,000km of walking is required to reach Level 4. This method is particularly recommended for Pokémon that have not yet appeared in Mega Raids.
