Pokémon GO's Marathon Visor Pikachu Requires 42 km Walk in Japan Event
From August 4 10:00 UTC to August 10 20:00 UTC, Niantic’s mobile game Pokémon GO is running the “Summer Excursion: Frozen Remains” event in Japan. The event brings back the Marathon Visor‑equipped Pikachu, which can be obtained only by completing a free “Time Challenge” that asks players to walk a total of 42 km.
The six‑and‑a‑half‑day window translates to roughly 7 km per day. While seasoned location‑based gamers may find the distance manageable, the challenge is considered harsh for many players because it coincides with a period of intense summer heat. Niantic advises participants to stay hydrated, take regular breaks, avoid direct sun, and monitor phone battery temperatures while walking.
The demanding requirement has sparked discussion among the Pokémon GO community, with some trainers expressing concern over the difficulty and potential health risks during the heatwave.
