Pokémon: Wild Card anime film announced

A new Pokémon anime film titled ‘Pokémon: Wild Card’ has been announced during the Pokémon World Championships 2026. Produced by studio CloverWorks, the film is expected to premiere in 2027.

In a departure from previous cinematic entries, the story focuses on the Pokémon Trading Card Game rather than traditional Pokémon battles. The plot follows a passionate card player and their partner, Mimikyu, as they pursue ambitious goals and face new challenges. This marks the first anime film in the franchise's history that does not feature the long-standing protagonist Ash Ketchum.

Katsuhiko Kitada is set to direct the film, with Akemi Hayashi providing character designs.
