Pokémon Winds and Waves faces high expectations on Switch 2 hardware

A new leak from the site Centro Leaks claims the evolution types for the three starter Pokémon in the forthcoming title Pokémon Winds and Waves will be “Browt: Planta/Tierra”, “Pombon: Fuego/Hada” and “Gecqua: Agua/Psíquico”. The rumor follows earlier speculation about the game’s release window, with leaker Khuse asserting that the title will not launch until the end of 2027 and that 2026 will see no official updates.

Industry observers note that the game arrives at a pivotal moment for the series, which has been criticised for performance problems on the original Nintendo Switch—issues that persisted through Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet, and Legends: Z‑A. Analysts expect the upgraded Switch 2 console, whose capabilities are comparable to the Xbox Series S and PS4 Pro, to allow smoother frame rates and a more detailed open world, putting pressure on Game Freak to resolve the franchise’s long‑standing technical shortcomings before the anticipated 2027 launch.
