Pokémon X account hacked to promote cryptocurrency scam

The official Pokémon profile on X was compromised by an unknown party for approximately 30 minutes on August 17, 2026. During the breach, the hacker published a post designed to look like an official advertisement for the brand’s 30th anniversary.

The fraudulent post promoted a cryptocurrency known as ‘$POKEMON’, describing it as the ‘official Pokemon memecoin’. While the post was cleverly structured to appear legitimate, many users identified it as a scam, and community notes were proposed on the platform.

Pokémon issued a statement acknowledging the unauthorized access and confirmed that the posts were not approved by the company. The brand stated that the posts have been removed, the account has been secured, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
