Pokrówka: Polish Prime Minister signs decree to rename Chełm commune

The Polish Prime Minister has signed a regulation to rename the Chełm commune to Pokrówka. The decision follows an initiative by the Chełm Commune Council to resolve informational confusion caused by the rural commune sharing the same name as the neighboring city of Chełm.

Local residents supported the change in a public consultation held in March, where 4,702 people voted in favor of the new name compared to 791 against. The administrative shift is scheduled to take effect in 2027, allowing time for the updating of official documents, seals, and signage.
