Polanco to host VIII National Heirloom Tomato Fair

The VIII National Heirloom Tomato Fair will take place in Polanco on August 22 and 23. Held in the gardens of the Casa de José María de Pereda, the event serves as a gathering for producers, experts, and enthusiasts of traditional Spanish tomato varieties.

Key highlights of this edition include the debut of a solidarity auction for winning tomatoes and the ‘Rural Chef’ gastronomic contest. The competition will award titles for the Best Tomato of Spain 2026, the Best Tomato of Cantabria, and the Best International Tomato 2026.

Other activities include a zero-kilometer and organic product market, workshops, lectures, concerts, and the distribution of 4,000 seed packets from previously awarded varieties. Polanco Mayor Rosa Díaz described the fair as a major summer event and a showcase for the agricultural heritage maintained by local producers.
