Poland faces major data breach affecting 19 million people
A major cybersecurity incident involving the MyDr system has potentially exposed the personal and medical data of approximately 19 million people in Poland. The breach, which includes PESEL numbers and sensitive health information, has prompted warnings from the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Biuro Informacji Kredytowej (BIK).
Recent studies indicate a growing sense of insecurity among the population. Approximately 79% of Poles express concern regarding the financial implications of data leaks, and one third of the population has already personally experienced or witnessed a data breach. The scale of the MyDr incident, involving over 2 TB of stolen data, highlights the increasing vulnerability of digital infrastructure.
In response to these threats, authorities recommend that citizens secure their PESEL numbers through the mObywatel app or official government portals to mitigate the risk of identity theft and financial fraud.
