Poland advances disability accessibility and PFRON leadership

In Poland, efforts to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities and parents with children are being highlighted through institutional updates and new leadership appointments.

At a conference in Łódź, officials from the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy and the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) discussed increasing the accessibility of public offices. ZUS is investing in infrastructure and specialized staff, including sign language interpreters and assistants for the visually impaired, to better serve its daily volume of over 1,200 visitors.

Additionally, the supervisory board for the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People (PFRON) has been appointed for the 2026–2028 term. The eleven-member board will be chaired by Monika Sikora, the government plenipotentiary for persons with disabilities. Appointed by Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, the board includes representatives from government administration, trade unions, employer organizations, and the Polish Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. The board is responsible for overseeing the Fund's activities, approving financial plans, and evaluating project selection criteria.
