Poland advances water infrastructure and flood prevention projects

Infrastructure projects are underway in Poland to improve water management and flood safety. In Lubaczów, an investment exceeding 1.67 million PLN is being implemented to expand the municipal water supply system. The project includes the construction of a new 195-cubic-meter reinforced concrete reservoir on Sobieskiego Street and the modernization of two existing tanks at the Water Treatment Plant. Once completed by October 2026, the system aims to secure a reserve of approximately 2,000 cubic meters of water to ensure 24-hour supply security for residents.

Separately, Wody Polskie is preparing to dredge the Włocławek Reservoir to mitigate ice jams and sudden flooding along the middle Vistula River. The operation will target two sections—near Płock and Popłacin—to remove up to 70,000 cubic meters of sediment. This measure follows significant flooding in 2021 that impacted Płock. The dredging process, which is expected to take up to seven weeks, will begin following sediment testing for heavy metals and environmental oversight.
