Poland agricultural markets see shifts in cucumber and apple prices
Agricultural markets in Poland are experiencing divergent price trends for cucumbers and industrial apples.
In the cucumber market, greenhouse cucumber wholesale prices fell by nearly 8% in the last week of August, averaging around 3.00 PLN/kg. This figure remains significantly below the five-year average of 4.05 PLN/kg. However, recent cooler and wetter weather in Poland has begun to impact the field-grown cucumber market, leading to a price increase. Field-grown cucumber prices currently range between 1.60 and 3.00 PLN/kg, with a rising trend expected as supply begins to tighten.
Conversely, the industrial apple market is seeing rising prices due to increasing demand at the start of the season. In regions like Sandomierz, prices have reached between 0.70 and 0.73 PLN/kg, while Mazovia and Łódź report levels around 0.63 to 0.67 PLN/kg. The current average price of 0.68 PLN/kg represents an 8% increase compared to the previous year and is 24% higher than the average of the last five seasons.
