Poland alcohol consumption: Experts warn of pregnancy risks and chronic health issues
Medical experts have released data regarding alcohol consumption and its health impacts. During a conference for World FASD Awareness Day, it was reported that 80 percent of Polish women consume alcohol, with 15 percent drinking during pregnancy. Experts noted that 90 percent of women do not admit to drinking while pregnant. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) can be caused by even small amounts of alcohol, and specialists emphasize there is no safe dose for a fetus.
Additionally, medical professionals warned about the consequences of regular alcohol intake, specifically daily beer consumption. Nephrologist Andrzej Konieczny stated that alcohol is harmful regardless of its concentration. Regular consumption can lead to liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes due to the high glycemic index of beer.
