Poland increases air defense readiness amid Russian strikes in Ukraine FAST-MOVING

Poland has heightened its military and civil defense readiness following intensified Russian air strikes on western Ukraine. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces has deployed military aviation and ground-based air defense systems to monitor and protect Polish airspace, particularly in the Lublin and Podkarpackie regions.

In response to the threat of high-speed drones and cruise missiles, Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk announced a change in engagement procedures. Polish pilots and commanders will no longer be strictly required to maintain visual identification of a target before engaging; instead, positive identification based on radar data, flight trajectory, and other technical intelligence will suffice to accelerate reaction times.

Civilian disruptions have occurred near the border, including the temporary suspension of traffic at the Dorohusk and Zosin crossings and the suspension of flight operations at Lublin and Rzeszów airports. The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) has redirected civilian aircraft to western corridors to ensure military freedom of movement. Additionally, the Ministry of Interior and Administration has issued new safety guidelines for citizens, emphasizing the 'two-wall rule' for seeking shelter during air alerts.
