Poland health and social trends: rising obesity and mental health concerns

Recent epidemiological data from the WOBASZ3 study reveals significant health challenges in Poland, including a 39% overweight rate among adults, a 21% obesity rate, and over 32% suffering from hypertension. Additionally, nearly 900,000 people are living with undiagnosed diabetes. Experts emphasize that while preventive measures and vaccinations are critical for longevity, many citizens continue to avoid medical consultations.

Workplace stress is also emerging as a major public health issue. A study titled ‘Our silent YES at work’ indicates that 69% of employees experience mental fatigue during working hours, and 61% feel exhausted after work. Stress-related issues and adaptation disorders accounted for over 12.5 million sick leave days in Poland last year, followed by anxiety disorders and depressive episodes.

Socially, reports highlight a growing sense of isolation and financial insecurity among younger populations. A Financial Wellbeing study shows that only 29.8% of Poles aged 18-24 feel confident in their finances, the lowest rate in Central and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, research into social connectivity suggests that nearly 20% of adults lack a close, lasting relationship, despite the recognized importance of social bonds for psychological well-being.
