Poland's Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska‑Grenda discloses 725k zł assets as health‑sector wage hikes approved

Minister of Health Jolanta Sobierańska‑Grenda revealed that her 2025 asset declaration listed 725,000 zł under “other earned income”. She explained that the sum stems from years of work as a lawyer, manager and university lecturer, including a fixed salary component, a variable component, a non‑competition compensation from a former manager contract with Szpitale Pomorskie, a collaboration fee with the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and earnings from academic activities. The amount is more than six times her ministerial salary of about 113,500 zł.

In July 2025 Sobierańska‑Grenda voluntarily published the full statement, stating that transparency in public life is essential. The disclosure has drawn public attention to the scale of supplementary earnings of high‑ranking officials.

The minister also approved a new valuation of health‑care services that will fund wage increases for medical staff. The National Health Fund (NFZ) is slated to spend an additional 9.25 billion zł over the next 12 months, raising contract values by roughly 5.5 % and covering higher minimum wages for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other personnel. The funding follows a recommendation from the Agency for Medical Technology and Tariff Assessment (AOTMiT) for 4.5 billion zł in the second half of 2026.

Meanwhile, Sobierańska‑Grenda faces political pressure over the controversy surrounding the South Hospital in Warsaw, with the prime minister demanding concrete reforms to improve transparency and efficiency in the health system. Her future in the cabinet may depend on how she handles the scandal and implements the new funding measures.
