Poland and Lithuania sign Harmony Link energy interconnector agreement
Energy transmission system operators Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) and Litgrid have signed an agreement in Vilnius to regulate the technical aspects of the Harmony Link interconnector. This strategic project aims to connect the power grids of Poland and Lithuania, with a target operational date by December 31, 2030.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Polish Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka and Lithuanian Energy Minister Lukas Savickas. The ministers also issued a joint statement regarding the strengthening of energy infrastructure security and mutual assistance. The project is part of the broader effort to synchronize the Baltic states' power systems.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius noted that the infrastructure serves as a gateway for Lithuanian energy to reach Europe, supporting the country's goal of becoming an electricity exporter. The interconnector is expected to facilitate energy trading, improve the use of Lithuania's growing renewable energy production, and enhance regional grid stability against hybrid threats.
