Zelenskyy congratulates Poland on Battle of Warsaw anniversary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued congratulations to Poland on the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw and Polish Armed Forces Day. In his message, Zelenskyy highlighted the historical role of Ukrainian soldiers who fought alongside Polish forces 106 years ago to stop the Bolshevik offensive from advancing into Western Europe.

The historical context refers to the 1920 alliance between Poland, led by Józef Piłsudski, and the Ukrainian People's Republic, led by Symon Petlura. While the Polish Army was the primary force in the Battle of Warsaw, Ukrainian units participated in significant operations during the Polish-Soviet War, such as the defense of Zamość.

In addition to diplomatic messages, commemorative actions such as the ‘Flame of Brotherhood’ have been organized. This initiative involves Polish and Ukrainian scouts working together to identify and honor the graves of Ukrainian soldiers located in Poland, including sites in Wrocław, to strengthen contemporary ties through shared historical memory.
