Poland launches 1 billion PLN subsidy for home energy storage

Poland is launching a new subsidy program for residential energy and heat storage, backed by a 1 billion PLN ($258 million) budget from the Modernization Fund. The second call for applications is scheduled to open on October 20, 2026, and will run until October 1, 2027.

The program targets prosumers with existing grid-connected renewable energy installations. To qualify, energy storage units must have a minimum capacity of 10 kWh, while heat storage tanks must hold at least 100 liters. New technical requirements include the mandatory use of an Energy Management System (EMS) and islanding capabilities to ensure emergency power during grid outages.

Financial support varies based on the prosumer's billing system. Those in the net-billing system can receive up to 16,000 PLN, while those in net-metering can receive up to 8,000 PLN. Additional bonuses of up to 2,000 PLN are available for using EU-manufactured equipment. The total maximum support per electricity supply point is capped at 19,000 PLN. Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska stated the initiative aims to increase renewable energy efficiency and strengthen energy security.
