Poland announces shortlist for Oscar candidacy

The Polish Film Institute has announced the list of films that have met the formal requirements to compete for the Polish candidacy for the Oscars. A nine-member Oscar Commission will begin deliberations on September 18 and announce its verdict on the same day. The selected title must be submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by September 30.

The qualified films include: ‘Bez końca’ (dir. Michał Marczak), ‘Dziki, dziki wschód’ (dir. Jan Holoubek), ‘Nasza rewolucja’ (dir. Piotr Domalewski), ‘Nie ma duchów w mieszkaniu na Dobrej’ (dir. Emi Buchwald), ‘Ojczyzna’ (dir. Paweł Pawlikowski), ‘Pojedynek’ (dir. Łukasz Palkowski), and ‘Przez ścianę’ (dir. Maciej Sobieszczański). The documentary ‘Bez końca’ is the only documentary on the list, following the search for a missing teenager in the Vistula River.
