Poland announces stricter railway safety laws and new speed cameras

Following a fatal accident in Sokolniki Suche where a concrete mixer struck a PKP Intercity train, Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak has announced plans to tighten railway crossing regulations. Proposed measures include the potential three-month suspension of driver's licenses for those entering crossings on red lights. The minister noted that legislative changes are often subject to adjustments during social consultations and inter-departmental negotiations.

In a separate development regarding road safety, Kraków is set to install two speed cameras on Konopnicka and Wielicka streets, provided an agreement is reached with the General Inspectorate of Road Transport. While city authorities had previously requested 13 devices following a tragic accident near the Dębnicki Bridge, only two are currently planned. These units will be relocated from roads in the Pomerania region rather than being new installations.
