Poland assesses damage after Russian missile lands in Tarnawa‑Kolonia

On 30 July 2026 a Russian missile entered Polish airspace during a large‑scale attack on Ukraine and fell in the village of Tarnawa‑Kolonia in Lublin Voivodeship, about 100 km from the border. Polish authorities – including the Lublin Voivodeship Office, the Turobin municipal office, police, military units and the prosecutor’s office – inspected the site, secured the area and began assessing damage, while investigators examined the unidentified object fragments.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the missile was armed and “very likely Russian”. The incident highlighted gaps in the public alert system; the Ministry of Defence announced plans to expand the RCB alert service, send SMS notifications both during and after threats, and distribute a digital safety guide. A SW Research poll commissioned by Onet found 37.8 % of respondents dissatisfied with the state’s response, 27.5 % satisfied, and the remainder neutral or undecided.
