ROADPOL launches European safety campaign focusing on pedestrian protection

The European network of road police services, ROADPOL, is conducting its annual 'ROADPOL Safety Days' campaign from September 16 to September 22, 2026. This initiative, held during the European Mobility Week and supported by the European Commission and the European Council on Road Safety (ETSC), aims to promote safe road behavior and work toward the 'Vision Zero' goal of eliminating all road fatalities.

The 2026 campaign places a specific emphasis on the safety of pedestrians, who are identified as one of the most vulnerable groups of road users. Police across various European nations are increasing patrols and conducting preventive activities to address risks such as speeding, failure to yield at crossings, and distracted walking.

A key component of the campaign is the 'COUNT' operation scheduled for September 17, which seeks to achieve a day without any road fatalities across Europe. Authorities are urging both drivers and pedestrians to take responsibility for their actions to ensure safer road environments.
