Poland bans swimming at dozens of Baltic Sea beaches

Polish health authorities have imposed a swimming ban on roughly 140 Baltic‑Sea beaches across the country. The bans, marked by red flags, are in effect at sites such as Ustka, Czołpino, Karwia, Jastrzębia Góra, Rozewie, Chałupy, Stegna, Sztutowo, Kąty Rybackie, and several beaches in Gdańsk including Brzeźno and Sobieszewska.

The primary reasons are dangerous sea conditions – high waves, strong winds and powerful back‑currents – that pose safety risks to bathers. In addition, two beaches in the West Pomeranian region were closed because microbiological tests exceeded allowed limits for Escherichia coli and enterococci. Swimmers are urged to watch for the red‑flag warnings and follow lifeguard instructions, as conditions can change throughout the day.
