Poland basketball team begins World Cup qualifiers against Israel

The Polish national basketball team is preparing to begin the second stage of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers with a match against Israel. Due to the political situation in Israel, FIBA has decided that the game will be held in Riga, Latvia, and will take place without spectators.

Andrzej Pluta, the MVP of the recent Polish league season, has joined the squad in Riga. While Pluta has been integrated into the team's tactical system, Łukasz Kolenda will not participate in the match. The roster also features naturalized American player Jordan Loyd.

Historically, the matchup between Poland and Israel is evenly matched with a 10-10 record over 20 games. However, Poland has won the last three encounters. Israel will be playing without key players, including NBA player Deni Avdija.
