Poland reports stable unemployment and stabilized birth rates

Recent data from Statistics Poland (GUS) reveals significant shifts in the country's labor market and demographics. The unemployment rate in July stood at 5.8%, remaining unchanged from June. This figure was slightly more optimistic than the 5.9% previously projected by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. However, the number of registered unemployed rose to 906,400, representing a 9.1% increase compared to the previous year. The unemployment rate among youth (under 25) remains notably higher at 11%.

In a separate demographic development, preliminary GUS estimates suggest a stabilization in birth rates. For the first time in nine years, the downward trend in births appears to have halted. The number of births in June 2026 was approximately 20,000, and the total for the preceding 12-month period remained stable at roughly 237,000. While this marks a pause in the decline seen since 2017, experts note that birth rates remain at historically low levels, far below the replacement rate of 2.1.
