Poland boosts offshore wind capacity and pilots sheep grazing on solar farms

Poland is expanding its offshore wind sector with the Baltic Power project, a 1.2 GW farm that will install 15 MW Vestas V236 turbines, achieving a capacity factor of 40‑50 %. Domestic factories in Gdańsk and Szczecin are being built to produce towers and components, creating up to 500 skilled jobs and supporting the national supply chain.

At the same time, Eurowind Energy is testing a dual‑use approach on photovoltaic farms in the West Pomeranian region, grazing about 200 sheep under the panels to control vegetation. The pilot covers two sites—Kębłowo (2 MW, 6 ha) and Złotowie (8 MW, 18 ha)—reducing the need for mechanical mowing while allowing agricultural activity to continue on the same land.
