Poland braces for heatwave, storms and up to 43 °C temperatures

Polish meteorologists warn that a major heatwave is expected to hit the country in late July and early August. Models suggest temperatures could reach 43 °C in the Podkarpacie region, breaking the national record of 40.5 °C. A yellow heat alert has been issued for the south‑east, with health services urging vulnerable groups to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

At the same time, the forecast calls for a series of thunderstorms across eastern Poland, with heavy rain, occasional hail and wind gusts up to 70 km/h. First‑degree storm warnings have been posted for several voivodeships, and locals are advised to watch for local flooding and reduced visibility.

The weekend ahead will see a brief lull of milder, sunny weather in many parts of the country, but temperatures will quickly rise again, reaching 30 °C or higher in most regions. The pattern of alternating hot spells and brief cooldowns is expected to continue through the first week of August.
