Poland braces for July heat wave and widespread storm alerts

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued a series of weather warnings for Poland in July. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast for the eastern, north‑eastern and central regions, with local rain totals up to 30 mm and wind gusts reaching 120 km/h near the Baltic coast. Hydrological alerts of the second degree have been placed on the eastern shoreline, the Vistula estuary and parts of the South‑Eastern Baltic, due to an approaching storm.

At the same time, a heat wave is expected to peak on Saturday 18 July. Model forecasts indicate shade temperatures of 35‑38 °C and ground‑level temperatures of 40‑43 °C in the western and south‑western voivodeships, especially Lubusz, Lower Silesia, Opole and Silesia. Earlier in the week temperatures will rise gradually, with forecasts of 30 °C in the west by 14 July and up to 32 °C in some areas by mid‑week. The public is advised to monitor updates, seek shade and stay hydrated.

Overall, the coming days will see a mix of cooler, rainy conditions in the east and north‑east, while the west and south‑west face extreme heat and occasional gusty winds.
