Poland: Cash gifts increasingly replace traditional wedding presents

A shift in social customs is occurring at Polish weddings, where cash is increasingly replacing traditional physical gifts. Market data indicates that guests are moving away from purchasing household appliances or decorations in favor of direct financial support for newlyweds.

The preference for cash varies based on the relationship with the couple. Among close family and witnesses, 41.3% choose a combination of cash and a small gift, while 32.8% provide cash alone. For acquaintances and distant relatives, the trend toward pure cash is stronger at 35.7%, with 34.5% opting for cash plus a small gift.

This evolution toward practical gifting coincides with high living costs and wedding organization expenses. Given the economic context, cash is viewed as a more useful tool for couples to manage wedding costs or build a household budget, while also avoiding the risk of receiving duplicate or unwanted items.
