Poland celebrates National Reading campaign with Mickiewicz’s ‘Dziady’

Communities across Poland participated in the 15th edition of the ‘Narodowe Czytanie’ (National Reading) campaign, an initiative held under the patronage of the Presidential couple to promote Polish literature. This year’s featured work was Adam Mickiewicz’s romantic drama, ‘Dziady’.

Events were held in numerous locations, including Sosnówka, Świdnik, Międzyzdroje, Pyskowice, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Gołcza, Słubice, Łęka Opatowska, and Sokołów Podlaski. Participants ranged from students and teachers to local government officials, such as mayors, councilors, and librarians.

Many celebrations included musical accompaniments, theatrical interpretations of the text, and community gatherings. The readings served to foster local identity and intergenerational connection through the shared experience of classical literature.
