Poland celebrates major literary awards and book prizes

Poland's literary scene is celebrating several major awards. The 21st GDYNIA Literary Award winners were announced during a gala at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. Laureates include Piotr Paziński for essay (for ‘Obstalunków’), Marcin Mokry for poetry (for ‘Solarysze’), Weronika Murek, and Elżbieta Sobolewska. The awards covered categories including essay, poetry, prose, and translation into Polish.

Separately, the Polish Book Chamber (Polska Izba Książki) is conducting the final stage of the Literary Award for Independent Bookstores. Until September 1, booksellers from independent bookstores across Poland are voting on five nominated titles in two categories: Polish literature for adults and Polish literature for children aged 6-12. The winners will be announced on September 11 at the Gdańsk Book Fair, followed by a series of author meetings hosted in participating independent bookstores.
