Narodowe Czytanie celebrates Adam Mickiewicz across Poland and abroad
The 15th edition of Narodowe Czytanie (National Reading) took place across Poland and in Polish communities abroad, focusing on Adam Mickiewicz’s romantic drama, ‘Dziady’. The central event was held in Warsaw at Adam Mickiewicz Square, inaugurated by President Karol Nawrocki and First Lady Marta Nawrocka. The President noted the work's enduring themes of community and memory.
Local celebrations occurred in numerous cities and towns, including Wejherowo, Sokołów Podlaski, Kielce, Dukla, Łomża, Świdnik, Gostynin, and Elbląg. These events often featured theatrical performances, musical accompaniment, and community participation. In some locations, such as Wyszyna, the reading was held in atmospheric outdoor settings like old cemeteries to match the play's mystical tone.
Beyond Poland, the initiative reached over forty countries, involving Polish schools, parishes, and embassies. The event serves as a major annual cultural tradition aimed at promoting Polish literary classics and fostering national identity through collective reading.
