Poland cherry market sees sharp price drop amid oversupply and heat stress

Polish cherry wholesalers reported a rapid decline in prices, with wholesale rates falling by about 44% within a week to roughly 7–11 PLN per kilogram, down from 10–16 PLN earlier in the month. The slump follows an influx of cherries from Balkan countries, especially Turkey, which has increased supply pressure on the domestic market.

At the same time, a heat wave has stressed Polish orchards, resulting in a larger share of small‑size, lower‑quality fruit. While premium grades still command around 13 PLN/kg, the bulk of the harvest is priced between 2–4 PLN/kg for industrial use, and 8–9 PLN/kg for frozen‑fruit quality. Analysts link the price fall to a combination of rapid domestic output growth, limited retail uptake, and still‑high import prices that remain above local fruit values. The outlook for the remainder of the season remains uncertain, with producers hoping for stronger domestic demand and retail purchases to stabilize the market.
