Poland closes 130 Baltic beaches due to high waves and wind

Red flags prohibiting swimming were raised on about 130 sea‑side bathing sites along Poland’s northern Baltic coast on Saturday. The closures were prompted by strong winds, high waves and powerful back‑currents that made water entry dangerous even for strong swimmers.

In the West Pomeranian Voivodeship flags fly at beaches such as Świnoujście, Międzyzdroje, Dziwnów and many others, while in the Pomeranian Voivodeship bans apply at Ustka, Łeba, Władysławowo and several additional sites. Three Gdańsk beaches – Sobieszewo, Orle and Świbno – were also closed.
