Poland closes dozens of beaches over dangerous waves and E. coli contamination

The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has raised red flags at many coastal bathing sites in Poland, prohibiting swimming because of high waves and strong back‑currents. Nearly 90 beaches in the West Pomeranian region—including Dziwnów, Trzęsacz, Mrzeżyno and Mielno—are closed, and similar restrictions apply at several locations in the Pomeranian voivodeship such as Poddąb, Dębin and Rowy.

Separate bans affect inland lakes in the Kościerzyna county where Escherichia coli levels exceed safe limits, notably at Dobrogoszcz and Wdzydze. Swimmers are advised to check beach signage, obey lifeguard orders and follow weather alerts warning of storms, heavy rain, hail and strong winds that could further endanger coastal conditions.
