Poland coach Jan Urban faces criticism over squad choices ahead of Nations League

Former player and commentator Mateusz Borek urged national team coach Jan Urban to make bolder selections and introduce more new faces as Poland seeks promotion from Nations League B back to the top tier. Borek warned that the upcoming group matches – against Bosnia, Sweden and Romania – will quickly test Urban’s choices.

Former PZPN president Zbigniew Boniek said the coach has a number of opponents within the squad, adding, “I hear there is a very strong group that does not like the current selector.” Despite the criticism, the PZPN board continues to back Urban, and the team will begin a long training camp before the September‑October fixtures.

The debate centers on whether Urban should retain the same players that led to the recent relegation or refresh the roster to improve Poland’s chances of returning to the elite division.
