Poland commemorates 125th birthday of Blessed Stefan Wyszyński with nationwide events

Poland marked the 125th birthday of Blessed Stefan Wyszyński on 2 August 2026 with a series of religious and cultural events. The main celebrations took place in Zuzela, his birthplace, where a solemn Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ryszard Niwiński and a parish procession invited the faithful to pray for his canonisation. A temporary outdoor exhibition on Wyszyński’s life was also displayed in Trzydnik Duży.

In Warsaw, a ceremony at the monument of the Primate commemorated the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, featuring Bishop Piotr Jarecki, who highlighted Wyszyński’s role as a chaplain and nurse to the insurgents. A historic walk titled “Będziesz miłował!” linked the birthday celebrations with the uprising remembrance. Additional activities included a visit to the Museum of John Paul II and the Primate, and prayers at the Jasna Góra sanctuary ahead of the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra vows.

These events underscore Wyszyński’s lasting influence on Polish religious and national identity.
