Poland commemorates 80th anniversary of Danuta Siedzikówna death

The Senate of Poland has passed a resolution by acclamation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the death of Danuta Siedzikówna, known by her pseudonym ‘Inka’. The resolution states that her figure symbolizes the tragedy and heroism of the ‘Soldiers Unbroken’ generation.

Siedzikówna was a 17-year-old who was executed on August 28, 1946, following a sentence by the Military District Court in Gdańsk. She was killed in a prison on Kurkowa Street alongside Feliks Zelmanowicz, known as ‘Zagończyk’. The remains of both individuals were recovered by the Institute of National Remembrance in 2014.

Born in 1928, Siedzikówna came from a patriotic family. Her father, Wacław Siedzik, was exiled to Siberia by the NKVD and later served in General Władysław Anders' army, while her mother, Eugenia, collaborated with the Home Army before being murdered by the Gestapo in 1943.
