Poland completes land‑fall drilling for Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 offshore wind farms

Four horizontal directional drilling (HDD) tunnels, each about one kilometre long, have been finished beneath the beach and dunes near Lędowo, roughly 3 km west of Ustka. The tunnels contain 71 cm‑diameter protective pipes that will house export cables linking the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 offshore wind farms to the Polish transmission grid. The work, carried out by Polenergia and the Polish contractor MAG Offshore, avoids open‑cut excavation and protects the sensitive dune ecosystem.

Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 together will host 100 turbines with a combined capacity of 1.44 GW. The first electricity from the farms is scheduled to reach the grid in 2027, with full commercial operation expected in 2028. The projects are at the halfway point of construction in Poland’s exclusive economic zone, with more than 50 of the planned 100 monopiles already installed.
