Poland considers digital tax on big tech firms

The Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs is considering a proposal for a 3% tax on the revenues of major global technology companies operating in Poland. If implemented, the new regulations are intended to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Marcin Horała, Vice-Marshal of the Sejm from the Rozwoju Plus party, has expressed concerns regarding the potential consequences of this move. He warned that the tax would likely trigger a sharp reaction from the United States, suggesting that any economic gains from the tax could be outweighed by the resulting sanctions.

Horała noted that while some European Union countries have introduced similar taxes, a coordinated EU-wide approach would be more beneficial to avoid unilateral repercussions for individual member states. He characterized the United States as an extremely assertive ally, particularly in the context of previous disputes regarding the withholding of National Recovery Plan funds.
