Poland considers multi-billion PLN US Army base
The establishment of a permanent US Army base in Poland is projected to cost 3 billion PLN for the base itself, with an additional several billion PLN required for civilian infrastructure. According to former National Security Bureau chief Dariusz Lukowski, the presence of approximately 5,000 soldiers would bring the total population to at least 15,000 people when including families.
This expansion necessitates the construction of housing, schools, kindergartens, and hospitals, making the project a nationwide undertaking involving ministries beyond defense, such as education and health. Potential locations include Wrocław, Poznań, Bydgoszcz, or Szczecin, each offering strategic advantages: Wrocław for armored brigades, Szczecin for its port complex, Bydgoszcz for its NATO command structures, and Poznań for its existing US V Corps forward command post.
Poland seeks military units capable of long-range precision strikes to fill existing capability gaps and enhance deterrence. The final decision regarding the location, troop types, and numbers rests with President Donald Trump. The investment process is expected to take a minimum of three years.
