Poland considers new road safety signage and traffic signal updates

Proposed changes to Polish road safety regulations are being discussed, focusing on improving driver awareness and reducing traffic violations. One major proposal involves updating the signage for average speed measurement sections (OPP). Currently, signs only indicate the start of a controlled segment; the new plan would include the specific speed limit allowed on that stretch to prevent confusion, especially on highways and expressways. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak supports this change, and the National Road Safety Council is expected to address the matter.

Additionally, Senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski has proposed the mandatory installation of countdown timers on traffic lights at intersections monitored by the Red Light system. The goal is to provide drivers with clear information regarding the time remaining before a signal change, thereby reducing sudden braking and the tendency for drivers to accelerate aggressively to beat a red light. The Ministry of Infrastructure has expressed openness to these new solutions.
