Poland considers regional summer holiday schedules

A proposal to divide summer holidays into different periods by voivodeship has been submitted to the Polish Ministry of National Education. The initiative, introduced via an interpellations by MP Piotr Uruski, aims to prevent the massive accumulation of tourist traffic and reduce pressure on road infrastructure and accommodation during peak seasons.

Proponents suggest that staggered holiday dates could extend the tourism season, benefiting hotels and local businesses, while reducing traffic congestion. The proposal draws a comparison to the existing system for winter breaks and cites Germany as a model where summer holidays do not start simultaneously across all federal states.

The Ministry of National Education has noted that implementing such a change would require addressing complexities related to the school calendar, including examinations, recruitment processes, and teacher schedules.

Public opinion on the matter appears divided. A survey conducted by SW Research for ‘Wprost’ indicates that 56.2% of respondents oppose the idea of staggered summer holidays, while 27.3% support the change, and 16.5% remain undecided.
