Poland considers replacing registration addresses with residential addresses
The Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) is analyzing a significant change to the population registration system. The proposal involves replacing the current permanent and temporary registration addresses (zameldowanie) with a single residential address (zamieszkanie) within the PESEL register.
According to Deputy Minister Magdalena Roguska, the goal is to unify the system and simplify administrative procedures. Under the proposed model, the residential address would serve as the primary reference point for various public institutions, including courts, tax offices, and local government units. This change aims to ensure that official correspondence reaches citizens at their actual place of residence, reducing discrepancies between different administrative databases.
While the ministry is conducting legal analyses to determine the feasibility of these changes, no final decisions have been made. Implementing such a shift would require formal legislative changes to the current registration obligations.
