Poland considers special law for 10 billion PLN AI gigafactory

The Polish government is considering a special act to accelerate administrative procedures for the construction of an AI gigafactory. Deputy Digital Minister Dariusz Standerski stated that such legislation depends on the European Commission's approval of the project, which would secure the necessary funding.

The proposed project is valued at over 10 billion PLN and aims to establish a medium-scale gigafactory with a target capacity of at least 75,000 AI accelerators. The initiative seeks to position Poland as a regional computing security hub, with Lithuania, Hungary, Croatia, and Slovakia already expressing interest in using the infrastructure.

While the government has pledged over 400 million PLN for purchasing computing power from existing infrastructure, the project faces challenges. Consortia must submit offers by November 12, and winners are expected to launch computing power within 18 months of signing contracts. Experts have raised concerns regarding the massive electricity requirements of such facilities and the potential impact on consumer energy prices.
