Poland Ministry of Infrastructure proposes stricter traffic enforcement and vehicle rules
The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing several legislative changes aimed at tightening traffic enforcement and vehicle requirements.
One major proposal involves the automatic surveillance system. To increase the effectiveness of speed cameras and red-light monitoring, the government plans to reduce the current unofficial speed tolerance. New rules could trigger penalties at 5 km/h over the limit on standard roads and 6 km/h on expressways and motorways. Additionally, the reform seeks to close loopholes that allow drivers to avoid responsibility by providing inaccurate information. Under the new rules, the person identified as the driver must personally confirm they were operating the vehicle. If a driver is not identified within 30 days, the vehicle owner could face administrative fees of up to 7,500 PLN.
Furthermore, the Ministry intends to expand the list of mandatory equipment for passenger cars. Starting April 1, 2027, all new cars registered after March 31, 2027, will be required to include a first-aid kit. This requirement will not apply to vehicles registered before this date, meaning existing car owners will not be forced to retrofit their vehicles.
