Poland crime updates: Breakthroughs in Marek Papała and Piła cold cases
Two separate criminal investigations in Poland have seen significant developments. In a long-standing case involving the 1998 murder of former Police Chief General Marek Papała, retired officer Marek Siewert has released findings through a new book. Siewert, who conducted three audits of the investigation, claims to identify the perpetrator and alleges that the original probe was marred by negligence, evidence manipulation, and political interference.
In a separate cold case, police in Piła have arrested a 44-year-old man, Damian B., for the 2008 murder of his 73-year-old grandmother. The breakthrough came via the Poznań 'X Archive' unit, which used advanced genetic testing to analyze biological traces, including adhesive tape used to bind the victim. The suspect, who was 26 at the time of the crime, has been charged with murder and faces a potential life sentence.
