Poland criticizes Israel over Gaza humanitarian crisis and accountability

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and a lack of accountability for the Israeli military’s use of force are eroding public support for Israel, even in nations traditionally supportive of the country.

These remarks follow the Polish Foreign Ministry’s expression of “great disappointment” regarding the Israeli military's decision to end proceedings into the April 1, 2024, shelling of a World Central Kitchen humanitarian convoy. The incident resulted in the death of Polish citizen Damian Sobol. In response to this decision, Poland summoned the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw.

Polish authorities are seeking full clarification and all necessary materials from Israel to assist investigators. Meanwhile, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemysl is conducting a parallel investigation into the incident.
