Poland delays new construction technical standards

The Polish Ministry of Development and Technology has unexpectedly suspended the implementation of new technical standards for multi-family buildings. Originally scheduled to take effect on September 20, 2026, the reform was halted just 48 hours before the deadline.

To prevent a legal vacuum, the government has implemented an 18-month suspension, allowing developers to continue building under existing regulations until March 2028. This decision effectively maintains the status quo, as the lack of a signed regulation prevents investors from choosing between the old and new legal regimes.

The proposed reforms aimed to significantly improve living conditions in residential blocks by introducing stricter acoustic insulation standards for walls and ceilings, as well as requirements for elevators in low-rise buildings and improved fire safety measures.
